Brainaboo Abacus
A virtual soroban kids move with their fingers, with the same levels as the books.
Activity books for ages 4–10
Abacus, telling time, logic, puzzles and drawing books where Boo the owl, Mia and Rohan turn every new skill into a story. Every puzzle is original, checked by our software, and answered at the back.
Shop by age
Every book comes in 4–6, 6–8 and 8–10 editions, so the puzzles grow with your child. Abacus books go by level, because kids learn the abacus in stages.
The bookshelf
Big 8.5 × 11 inch paperbacks on Amazon.com, with new titles every week. Hover over a book to open it a little.
Try it yourself
This is a soroban, the Japanese abacus our books teach. The gold bead is worth 5 and each purple bead is worth 1. Push beads to the bar and watch the number change.
Tap a purple bead to make 1!
Telling time
It's 3:00, three o'clock.
This clock shows your time. Our Telling Time books start with o'clock and half past for ages 4–6, then quarter past and a.m./p.m. for 6–8, then elapsed time, 24-hour clocks and bus timetables for 8–10.
Inside every book
Our software solves every puzzle a second way before it goes in the book. No impossible sudokus, no wrong answers.
Pages are labelled and get harder step by step, so kids feel success first.
Puzzles are original and never repeat between volumes. Every new book is new practice.
Boo, Mia and Rohan teach each big idea in a comic before the practice starts.
All the answers are at the back, ready for a quick check by a grown-up.
Every book ends with a certificate to fill in and celebrate.
Meet the friends
They're in every book: in the comics, on the covers, and cheering kids on through the hard pages.
Knows every bead rule and clock trick, and explains them slowly, with a wink.
Asks the questions every child is thinking, then works them out on her abacus.
Always in a hurry, often late, and always ready for the next puzzle.
Football at quarter past 4! When is that?
Quarter past means 15 minutes after. That's 4:15!
I'll never be late again!
